Michelle - My son is 19 months old. He has had a shunt since he was 24 hours old. From what I have heard/been told, they will most likely leave the shunt in place, it will just be another surgery to have it removed. If the shunt stops functioning properly, and it is determined that he does not need it, they will not replace/revise it.
