I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea a little over two years ago. At first I was scared when I was told how serious my condition was; now I am resigned to it, but not happy. In fact, I often suffer from severe depression and no one seems to understand. I don't believe that, unless you are going through a similar situation, you can understand. I am sleeping much better now and have adjusted to the side effects of having my CPAP machine at such a high level, but I am very lonely. The relationships with good men that I have tried to start have ended quite suddenly when they found out about my CPAP. Now I believe I will be living the rest of my life alone. Depression, I am told, is often a side-effect of apnea.
