Lung cancer

On Dec. 29 my husband, 63 years old,had a seizure on his left side & admitted to the hospital. A week earlier he had his annual physical and a chest xray. A mass was seen in the xray and a CT scan was ordered. The results-CTscan + mass under r. arm. Needle biopsy, findings were small cell malignancy. After he was admitted an MRI was given -MRI + lesions. The primary diagnosis was lung cancer, secondary diagnosis was brain metastases. He was put on Dilantin and Decadron for the seizures. We were not told what stage his cancer was in. But was told that without chemo therapy and radiation therapy he would have only weeks to live. On 12/31/00 he was given chemo therapy. CPT.11 (5.97M Irinotecan (CAMPTOSAR) 119.4 MG. AND CISPLATIN 119.4mg in SODIUM CHLORIDE 0.9%. Has had two more doses of CPT.11 and had 12 radiation treatments to his head from 01/02 to 01/17 (week days). Will start same treatment over on the fifth week which will be on 01/29. Chest xray taken on 01/22 showed a decrease in density of mass. So they feel the treatment is working. In the beginning we asked about MD Anderson and other cancer research centers and were told that what the DRs. were reccomending was the first step. I guess I want someone to tell us that my husband is getting the latest and best treatment available. And can you tell me anything about glycoscience and its effect on cancer. I know the role of good nutrition and exercise in ones health. Any enlightment would be appreciated.
