Mitro-valve Prolapse

Pam Smith

Message 1 of 1

I am 28yrs old. I experience a rapid heart rate in '99 which I had to go to the ER for. After a visit to a cardiologist they did not diagnose me with any condition and said to get another check up in 6mo. At that checkup they did an echo (because he heard a click)which showed my heart to be healthy, but I had a valve which was a little to long and thick and made a clicking sound. I also was experiencing some flutters, which diagnosed me with SVT along with the MVP! Before the holidays of '00, I experienced another rapid heart beat which in turn sent me to the ER. This time drugs were induced to slow the rate. The doctor recomended the abliation, I refused. I tried the beta-blocker through the holidays and at first it helped. The pressure was releived and less syptoms of flutters. After Christmas though, I stopped the beta-blocker because I was so tired. And it really worried me to be messing with my blood pressure. On top of all this I have JRA (juvenille rheumatiod arthritis!) Recently I continue to have symtoms of the pressure. I really can not determine chest pains, because I have so many aches and pains from arthur! The most bothersom of syptom is the pressure. It feels like someone has just put a weight on my chest and neck and it just sits there. Sometimes this syptom can last for short period of time and I will only get that feeling once during the day. Sometimes that syptom comes and goes during the day. Most of the time I feel the pressure either in morning or in the evening just before bed. Another scary thing is sometimes when I am in bed, if I am laying on my left side, it just feels as though my heart if flip/floping or even just wants to stop. Is this typical of MVP? Are MVP and SVT related? Can all these health problems be related? How do I know if something is serious enough to call the doctor? I am scared and paranoid to travel or go places because I am afraid something will happen with my heart. Can anyone help with my worries-help me feel safer? I am a mother of four children (2 adopted and 2 foster), I do not want to leave them, my biggest fear is being put in hospital or worse dealth. Much help is requested from this worry-wart, thanks!
