I have had Bells Palsy since 1-16-00 and have had acupuncture w/electrical stimulation and decompression surgery March 6, 2000. Unfortunately, after all this time I am left with synkinesis (involuntary movement of right side, eye closure and drooping, unable to read for any length of time and when I try to smile or eat the right side goes upward. I thought I would get accustomed to people staring in public places, but at times it does bother me. Recently, when my husband and I are in a store or whatever, I tell people I have Bells Palsy. Wondering how other people deal with what is an embarrassing situation. This is probably not a good idea either but my face does get swollen at times and it does not look normal and may never look normal.
