I also have dry eyes which are a part of the ankylosing spondylitis condition I am dealing with. My ophthalmologist has done the punctal cautering procedure and has prescribed a type of steroid drops called Alrex (loteprednol). At bedtime, I find that using a lubricant eye ointment, such as Refresh P.M. helps much more effectively than moisture drops alone. I use GenTeal lubricant eye drops whenever dryness occurs throughout the day. I must say that the regimen of the Alrex first thing in the morning and the ointment at night, has enhanced the benefits of the punctal procedure for me! Please note that Alrex was initially prescribed for me to use in the morning and at night, but now only in the morning. One more thing, my doctor explained to me that dryness of the eye is called by inflammation.Good luck and feel better!
