My 75 year old mother developed Polymyalgia in Sept. of '99. She is taking predinisone (now at 7 mg per day) but is having terrible side effects - such as tremendous weight gain, watery eyes, shortness of breath,cataracts, etc. Basically her quality of life right now stinks. She was just diagnosed with hypercalcemia on top of all this . Are there others of you with these bad side effects? What can be done? I'd like her to get off the steroids all together,but if she decreases her dosage further her pain is too great.... i need suggestions as to what has worked for others....it seems that she just develops one complication after another....She has no energy and is rapidly getting depressed. HELP!!
