Language disorders

Message 1 of 1

If your son is on the autism spectrum he does have a language disorder in addition to other symptoms. I assume that he has had a complete evaluation by the local school district. A child with simply an expressive language disorder normally doesn't demonstrate those additional symptoms. They often have trouble labeling items, counting items, naming colors, remembering sentence structure, identifying letters, and saying what they mean. Later, they often have difficulty reading because that skill demands the brain to immediately recall the meaning of words they see. Those children also find writing difficult because their "filing system" is not efficient.
