I am no Dr., but I was raised in the South. Ha ha Some old remedies we always used was making a paste of meat tenderizer and water and keeping that on there. It draws out the venom and if a stinger is left (as sometimes happens with bee stings) it will also "tenderize" the meat around the stinger and loosen it to allow it to come out on it's own. Other things we used was a mud paste (good ol' dirt and water), tobacco paste or a wet tea bag. If it is feverish you could put a cool (not ice cold) compress on it to cool it off and help reduce swelling.
