Cellulitus

Message 1 of 1

I'am 55 and this is the seoond time I've gotten cellulitus in my left foot. My fever was also 104 and this can be life threatening if not treated properly. Each time I've had to go to the hospital for one afternoon and receive immediate IV antibiotics, and continued use of same for about 4-6 weeks. This condition can also be caused by a staph or strep infection which can cause blood clots and damage organs. Usually bacteria enters the body through an insect bite or cut or some other abrasion- even athletes foot and instead of getting infected locally gets into the blood stream and affects the entire limb. In my case my whole leg. Usually the infection is accompanied by fever, swelling and extreme redness of the skin. If not treated immediately, or even if treatment is agressive, the skin will crack and become broken and painfull with fluids seeping from the body. These are dead cells and sermin escaping the body from the extreme swelling. This is not a condition to take lightly as it can lead to blood infection (septia) and other organ failures.
