A-typical cells (mole removal)

Sandy

My 20 yr old daughter had a mole on the calf of her leg that started to bleed this summer. At first she thought she had a mosquito bite there or may have nick it shaving her legs. I talked her into going to the Dermatologist and having it checked. He said it looked ok and not to worry about it but if she wanted it taken off, he'd do it. So she said "yes take it off". Thought nothing more of it. But thought it would be better to have it off so she knows she wouldn't nick it shaving. They did the routine biopsy. The other day they called (3 wks ago they took it off) and said she had A-typical cells in the biopsy and now they want to remove more tissue. She's worried that she'll have a hole in her leg. And she's so upset that the doctor said not to worry about it but thankful she insisted on having it removed. Is there anything to worry about? Of course when they told me the diagnosis, it was all greek to me and I had to ask, "And what does that mean?" The nurse said it was not malignant now, but if left untreated it could turn into cancer. Will she have to watch this the rest of her life? What about other moles?
