As a Registered Nurse, my son-in-law has a herniated disk in the neck and chest area. Daily pain is some what alleviated with pain medications along with muscle relaxants; will have to go through the double surgery in 2-5 years time. Just make sure you are going to either an Orthopedic Surgeon or a Nerve Specialist for they know more about this problem then a General Practioner. If you need the surgery, don't put it off for it will definitely help you. Just picture yourself 3-6 months after the surgery no longer having the pain? Good luck.
