The cause of hypertension is not known in most cases. Heredity often is involved. I have had hypertension since 1981, but have kept in control with various meds. It is a delicate balance, and meds that work for me may not work for you. It is trial & error. Right now, I take Lasix, diltiazem and zestril and then had to add HZTZ when it got real high. In the past, I have taken verapamil. So be patient. If this doctor cannot get you in control, maybe you should have another opinion.
