                        Hello, I suffered from folliculitus for about 1 1/2 years.  All the doctors could do was to prescribe antibiotics which would control the outbreaks.  I had a patch a little bit bigger than a silver dollar on the right side of my chin.  I got off the antibiotics and pulled out all the follicles in the affected area(tweasers).  I put iodine tincture around the area as I pulled these follicles out.  The iodine seemed to mix in the blood during the process.  I applied more iodine for a few more days after hot water washing.  I haven't had so much as a zit in that area since. My outbreaks were very severe.  It has been over a year now and I apoligize for taking so long to post.  It would seem to me if you have an infection of the follicle then removing the follicle would remove the infection.  I don't know if iodine has anything to offer in this situation but it was part of my process (perhaps it was for a moment during bleeding able to get down into the infected area an destroy the bacteria)  I am not a doctor, just somebody that wanted to get rid of a horrible skin disease and did.  I hope this can help someone.  If your antibiotics didn't help you during the first 2 weeks get off them.  They can do more harm than good. Good luck.
