I am also 45F, I spent a week in the hospital in Oct 98 to find I had this. Since that time I have had two other incidents - 1 I had to go to Dr for antibiotics, the 2 I went on clear liquids and took it easy for a couple of days and it cleared up. I wouldn't consider sexual activity during problem times, but it has not affected sexual activity otherwise. There is no triggering effect, but like I said, when I had the subsequent painful episodes, I was not interested in sexual activity anyway.
