My husband has Hydrocephalus and is 81 years old. He had a Shunt inserted on 4/17/01 and has never been the same. He was in the hospital 14 days. Has had ongoing therapy. He is worse than before the surgery. We cannot get any answers from his surgeon. He has adjusted the shunt several times but only because my husband had a MRI and this will deprogram the shunt and must be programed over again. We are seeing a neurologist and hope to get some answers. We now feel he might have Dementia which can be caused by Hydrocephalus. Think twice about having the surgery. We were never told my husband could be worse after surgery all we were told is how much better he will be and his quality of life will be much better.
