hypothyroidism

I also have hypothyroid and the auto-immune disease hashimotos with it. Since I had a large goiter, due to the thyroid being half destroyed, I have to take enough synthroid that my body does not produce its own thyroxin or the goiter will come back. I take Synthroid 175. I monitor my blood levels every year. There are signs when it dips, hair loss, dry skin, low body temperature, tiredness. But I've tried a higher dose (200) and it was too high for me, got heart palpitations, trembling hands and dizziness. I judge alot by how I feel but NEVER play with my medication. I have 2 sisters with thyroid conditions too, and one of them increases the dose herself on occasion to try to use it to lose weight. She is the only one of us with a weight problem. Follow your doctor, stay on the correct dose, in the beginning monitor it every couple months until you are on the correct dose. Add exercise a minimum of 3 times per week, don't overeat (stop when you are full) and you will never have a weight problem. I am a 41 year old female, 5 foot 4 inch, 125 pounds, and after 16 years with a thyroid problem -- DON'T have a weight problem. Some people use that as an excuse for inactivity and overeating. Good luck to you.
