My daughter had vitiligo which began as a 12-year-old child. A dermatologist suggested that several "suspicious-looking" moles be removed from her back, the theory being that a "virus" of some type was attacking her pigmentation system. This "mole removal treatment" seemed to stop the advance of the vitiligo. The white areas seemed to fade with time, although the texture of the skin is still somewhat thickened and leathery feeling.
