I am early on in my recovery from bulimia and I think connecting her parents with information about bulimia would be helpful The more they know about the damage it does and causes the better they will be in supporting her. There are a number of web sites specifically for family and friends. If this child wants help then she will need to be willing to tell her parents in some way. For myself it was hell, and suicide seemed like it would be a relief from the bulimia. I hated being bulimic and would rather die than live my life like that. Luckily for me I figured out what would work for me. There is little to no research to support this intervention of mine but hey it is working. I take prozac (didn't seem to impact bulimia) then I started on something just because it seemed to make sense for other issues. It has appeared that I have been ADHD and this was never identified. I started taking ritalin to address this and my impulse control improved so that I was able to deal with the bulimia. It makes sense since it really is an impulse control issue, doesn't it? My brother is a pharmacist and is also amazed, since starting on the ritalin I have 44 days bulimia free and life is improving. I don't know if this drug will be the answer for anyone else but I think research would be wise.
