fibromyalgia

Hi Pat. I too have had fibro. for more than 20 yrs. I've probably had surgery I did not need, if someone had been able to diagnose it correctly. I even went to the Mayo Clinis in the early 90's, where they told me that I had "muscle contraction syndrome"...finally was told it was fibro. by a neurologist. He started me on antidepressants, which helped a little, and finally ultram and restoril at night. I was even on the duragesic patch for a long time, but did not like the idea of being on such strong med. and did not like the way it made me feel. I am in my 60's, have arthritis in my spine and have a total knee replacement. I am finished with therapy and am now able to get back to my walking when I'm having a "better'...they don't happen very often, but I know exercise is important. Do you exercise? I go to a fibro. support group and I'm lucky to have a great husband and family, but no one understands the pain unless they have this. The fibro.fog is a nuisance, the weakness which catches you lff guard is miserable too. Have you tried any herbals? I am using valerian root...smells terrible, but I think it helps a little for sleep. Who diagnosed you? How do you deal with this? Do you have any other suggestions? I thank God every day for my blessings and try not to get "down" but I am sure yoy know that is not always possible. Good luck to you and keep on keeping on! BeeZee
