My 7 year old son has had 3 sets of "tubes" placed in his right ear and one set in his left ear. We have been playing this game, including adnoid removal for several years. Today we were told that he needs yet another set of tubes. His hearing test is within normal range but lower than after the last surgery. He has effusions(fluid) behind his membrane but also has lots of hard dry wax. Does anyone have any advice. It seems to me that we should give him drops and "melt" the wax. I am a nurse at the hospital and I know the doctor would not suggerst something he didn't feel necessary but there has to be some other options.
