If it was gout chances are your uric acid level would have been elevated. Colchicin is very effective in addressing gout and should be kept in mind should there be a recurrence. Often with the swelling, if when the area is depressed, there is a white or lesser bright color appearing, there is a good chance that it is gout-related. Bursitis is another option.
