Adult Scoliosis Surgery

SB

Message 5 of 10 Previous Next

I had scoliosis surgery at the age of 31 and revision surgery to remove the hardware 5 years later. Normally the hardware will stay in your body for the rest of your life, but it caused me too much pain. My doctor is one of the top scoliosis surgeons in the country. If I could do it again, I would not have had the surgery. I feel some degree of pain every moment of every day. You will also. They can not cut through all those nerves, tissues, bones and do the amount of drilling and pounding into your body that they will need to do, and you not suffer the consequences for the rest of your life. My degree of curvatures were in the low 30's. I had an "S" curve, also. And, I opted not to have my ribs cut... thank goodness. That would have meant more pain. I am straighter and taller, but I really do suffer every moment of every day. I will need to take prescription and OTC pain killers forever. The pain gets worse when you are active and 3 days before it rains until the moment it does rain. So, unless you live in the desert, there is almost always rain in the forecast. Sorry to be so negative, but I would not want someone else to suffer like this, if it is not necessary. Good luck!
